Das Pfarrblatt als gemeindebildende Kraft

Abstract

Nur 16,9 % der westdeutschen Katholiken haben nach eigener Einschätzung eine
enge Bindung an ihre Pfarrgemeinde, über 40 % fühlen sich ihrer Gemeinde nur ganz lose oder gar nicht verbunden. Bei den 16-20jährigen erhöht sich der Anteil
der fast und ganz Bindungslosen auf mehr als 50 %, bei den 21-29jährigen auf über 60 %, während aus beiden Altersgruppen nur 6-7 % eine enge Bindung
angeben. Die innerhalb der Repräsentativbefragung des Instituts für Demoskopie Allensbach für die Gemeinsame Synode der Bistümer in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland ermittelte Pfarrbindung im Raum der westdeutschen Diözesen ist in den Großstädten noch geringer. Dort haben nach den Ergebnissen der gleichen Untersuchung 58 % der Männer und 45 % der Frauen eine nur ganz lose oder gar keine Bindung an ihre Pfarrgemeinde; nur 13 % der Männer und 18 % der Frauen geben eine enge Bindung an. Demoscopic surveys show that the adhesion of Catholics to their parish today is not very strong. The Parish, very often, does not exist in the thinking of the parishoners. Conditions for parish-consciousness are information and communication within the parish itself. The spoken word is not sufficient for this kind of communication as it reaches only those who are participating in one or other of the parish activities. The parish as a whole can be reached only by means of social communications, but the means intended for audiences wider than the parish are not fulfilling this purpose. Therefore a special Parish Bulletin is needed. The history of such Parish Bulletins goes back to the beginning of newspaper journalism. In the future their importance will increase to the extent that local news and information grows. The limits will be extended when the expectations of the role of the Parish Bulletin go beyond the mere possibilities of communication and integration in such a paper. The effectiveness of the Parish Bulletin for the community depends on its understanding its own role, as expressed for example in its style of presentation. The more it is built on dialogue the more will it act towards creating a community. From the understanding of its own nature and function, a Parish Bulletin should be a publication of, for, and about the parish. This medium should be a meeting point for all who live in that church community and its boundaries.
