Anfragen an das theologische Selbstverständnis der Bistumspresse

Abstract

Wenn hier ein Theologe zur Bistumspresse Stellung nehmen soll, so gilt es zuvor
festzustellen, was er zu auf den ersten Blick rein publizistischen Phänomenen, zu
denen auch die Zeitung eines Bistums gehört, überhaupt sagen und was er nicht
sagen kann, sofern er als Theologe spricht. Zunächst: was fällt nicht in seine Kompetenz? Er kann und soll keine „Theologie der Bistumspresse" erarbeiten. Das gültige und richtige Funktionieren einer Bistumspresse als Medium im Gesamtkontex gesellschaftlicher Kommunikation der Kirche bedarf keiner Rechtfertigung und erst recht keiner Anweisung vonseiten der Theologie. Das inflationäre Anwachsen von Genitivtheologien zieht mit Recht den Verdacht eines ideologischen Rechtfertigungsbedürfnisses für neue Praktiken auf sich, die der Kirche in einer geänderten Umwelt aufgezwungen worden sind, mit der sie indes noch nicht ihren Frieden machen konnte, weil Abwehr und Kulturkritik bisher ihre spontane Reaktion auf die neuzeitliche technische, kulturelle und soziale Emanzipationsbewegung war. The author does not want to develop a „theology" but asks that the diocesan press acquires a theological self-understanding. He tries to answer the question of the specific role in communications played by the Press in internal Church communications. The difficulty becomes clear immediately if one asks modern theology what is „specifically Christian." The author selects "proclamation" (Verkündigung) as the key-word. Here, the diocesan press has, up till recently, been a second pulpit. The press was the vehicle for hierarchical directives, and was used for defence. Only since the Council, and in post-Conciliar times is there
a new orientation. But the plurality of modern theology brings about uncertainty and disorientation in the Church press as weil. This is understandable, because communications is part of the Church itself. But if today the word of the Church is understood as a critical appraisal of modern society, then the Church Press shares in this task. As a forum of steady critical approach to tabus and injustice in society it has to fulfil the role of proclalming the Church on the way to the Kingdom of God and his salvation.
