Abstract

Die Auseinandersetzung zwischen (katholischer) Kirche und den Medien der jeweiligen Epoche erstreckt sich über einen längeren Zeitraum und ist auch weit umfangreicher als gemeinhin bewußt. Allein die von E. Baragli zusammengetragene Sammlung kirchlicher Dokumente zur Kommunikation listet für die Zeit von Johannes Gutenberg (1464) bis zum Jahr 1973 gut 750 Stellungnahmen zu diesem Themenfeld auf.t Mit dem II. Vatikanischen Konzil (1962-65) ist das Ringen um eine zeitgemäße Standortbestimmung im (Spannungs-)Verhältnis zwischen Kirche und Medien intensiviert worden, was sich in einem ersten Schritt bereits 1963 in dem - vom Umfang her kurzen und bald als nachbesserungsbedürftig erkannten- Konzilsdekret ,Inter mirifica' über die sozialen Kommunikationsmittel niedergeschlagen hat. SUMMARY: lncluding media in the proclairning of the faith- Remarks to the relationship between Church and communication

The author deals with the relationship between Church and rommunication and asks for the rommunicative dimension in the life and work of Jesus Christ. Refering to the theological position of E. Arens, the author points out that the gospel and. the life of Christ shows a rommunicative process which is interpersonal and open to all classes of society. The aposte1s and the early Church acted in the same way. Therefore, communication is a fundamental element of the Church and has to charaterize all its activities. For this reason, the Church may have its own media, too. They have to take part in the proclaiming of the faith not primarily as information but as rommunication because the truth of the faith is mainly a "truth in relationship" (Spital). This truth has to be be "done" more than be "said". Therefore, media never can substitute direct personal rommunication and rommunicative acting of the Church.
