Abstract

Mit Postmans Worten: "Media ecology is the study of information environments". (...)

English

Neil Postman's books ,;The Disappearanee of Childhood" and ,,Amusing ourselves to Death", being quite a sueeess in Germany, are presented here with their basic ideas. In these books Postman presents his thesis of the deeline of the period of printing and the beginning of a television area. From this there are bad eonsequenees as weil for ehildhood as also for adults. The Postman books are eritically analyzed not as scientifie books but rather being 'essays' or features. Therefore no contra-opinions are developed but only questions are raised to further ditferentiate and develop. So e.g. some anthropological preeonditions are presented whieh are apparently eontributing to the television boom and eonditioning eonsequenees, never spoken about in the present discussions.
