Abstract

Philosophen haben im Lauf der Jahrtausende viel spekuliert über die Beschaffenheit der Wirklichkeit, und die Naturwissenschaften haben versucht, Naturgesetze, also einheitliche Prinzipien, hinter der Mannigfaltigkeit der empirischen Phänomene zu entdekken. In jüngerer Zeit schienen dabei die Erkenntnisse der Naturwissenschaften denen der Philosophen und Theologen unversöhnlich gegenüberzustehen. Wir behaupten nun, daß sich eine neue Kohärenz abzeichnet. Der Gang unserer Argumentation wird folgende Etappen umfassen. (...)

Starting from parallel insights in Science and Theology the author sketches a Communications theory of mystical experience. Central to this is the christian concept of'Verbum', the Divine Word. In speaking this word (Joh. I, 1) God develops the creation from singlefold to the manyfold which makes communication necessary. At the same time this communication with God continues to exist: In the mystical experience one again is refolded into unity with God. This is also already a temporary experience ofthe promise for the end oftime. In relation to the concepts ofthe Pastoral Instuction the trinitarian trias Communio-Communicatio-Communio are central for the theological and cosmological understandig.
