Abstract

Rückblicke sind eine zwiespältige Sache, umso mehr wenn es in einer veränderungsreichen und -freudigen Zeit auf eine Erscheinungsform von Gesellschaft zu blicken gilt, die nicht wesentlich aufVeränderungenangelegt ist: auf die Kirche. Ihr zweiter Brückenkopfist verankert, wo irdische Zeitkategorien- und damit menschliche Veränderung längs einer Zeitachse -nicht gedacht werden können. Aber der hiesige Brückenkopf ist nun einmal die je konkrete gesellschaftliche Wirklichkeit, als die sich Kirche menschlich-irdisch manifestiert. (...)

The pastoral instruction published ten years ago has not basically changed the world of communications. In the European view one would have expected initiatives and proposals in the following areas: A better relation between Church authorities and mass media, more appreciation of the communication professions, new initiatives for media education, reorganisation of the international, national and Diocesan communications offices of the Church, scientific work of theology on questions of communications, especially mass communications. Essential development in those fields cannot be registered in the last ten years. The Church communications media managed to quite an extent the crisis they were in, but this
was done not because there was any impact of "Communio et Progressio".
