Information als Verkündigung? Zum Problem des Informationsrechtes in der Kirche

Abstract

Hat der Vatikan die Medien-Instruktion „Communio et progressio" liquidiert? Wurden die darin begründete Notwendigkeit einer freien öffentlichen Meinung in der Kirche und das Informationsrecht des Gottesvolkes sowie die Informationspflicht der Hierarchie wieder rückgängig gemacht? Diese bangen Fragen stellte eine zutiefst erschrockene innerkirchliche Öffentlichkeit in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland nach einem Interview, das der damalige Substitut am päpstlichen Staatssekretariat, Erzbischof Giovanni Benelli, dem „Rheinischen Merkur" im Dezember 1976 gab. Seine wesentlichen Aussagen zur „Handhabung" der Information in der Kirche durch die kirchlichen Amtsträger wiederholte und bekräftigte er dann nochmals in der Tageszeitung „Die Welt" im März 1977. In an interview which attracted a great deal of attention, Cardinal Benelli, former Deputy Secretary of State and present Archbishop of Florence, set out the limits of the right of being informed within the Church. He argues that information in the Church is part of her proclamation, and therefore depends on dogmatic and theological principles. The author shows that this opinion is supported by long-standing tradition in the teachings of the Church including such important post-Conciliar documents as "Communio et Progressio". Modern theology puts Forward no new argument on this topic. The surprise with which the public received Cardinal Benelli's ideas shows the need for more intensive thinking about the right to be informed within the Church as elsewhere.
