regionaler, weltweiter Basis von der katholischen Presse und für die katholische Presse abgehalten werden, da Seminartagungen, Hirtenbri.efe und Memoranden sich mit dem Problem der katholischen Presse befassen, in einer Zeit, da die deutsche Bischofskonferenz 15 Millionen DM für eine neu zu schaffende katholische Wochenzeitung bereitstellt, in einer solchen Zeit, sollte man meinen, könnte und sollte man doch eine solche Frage nicht stellen. The Catholic press belongs to the ful! picture of the church in the 19th and the beginning 20th centuries. The activities of this press lay rnainly in the internal life of the church. The press served to save, to defend and to rnaintain the Catholic rnilieu; the editors were true co-operators with the hierarchy. This situation changed after World War II and especially after the Council. During the Council the Church becarne aware of the secular press and the Catholic journalists feit more and more the still existing prejudice against the press. The position of the Catholic journalist in the Church as well as the professional ability becarne uncertain. The question of the Church's wanting a Catholic press was voiced. If the answer was yes, the hierarchy had to express this will in rnore than friendly words.
