Die soziale Verantwortung des Journalismus

Abstract

Wenn die journalistische Berichterstattung nicht mit den Wahrnehmungen der Betroffenen und Beteiligten übereinstimmt, endet dies regelmäßig in einer Medienschelte. Doch Medien und Journalismus, so die These in diesem Beitrag, sind nicht das Gleiche. Das hat Folgen auf mehreren Ebenen. Während der Journalismus soziale Verantwortung für eine professionelle Berichterstattung zu übernehmen hat, liegt die soziale Verantwortung der Medien darin, den Journalismus mit den für eine qualitative Berichterstattung notwendigen Ressourcen auszustatten. Durch dieses Modell ist es möglich, erstens einen Referenzpunkt zu finden, um soziale Verantwortung zu messen, und zum zweiten wird es dadurch möglich, Adressaten für die Übernahme sozialer Verantwortung zu finden. Plädiert wird aus diesen Gründen für ein Ressourcenmodell der sozialen Verantwortung von Medien und ein Prozessmodell der professionellen Berichterstattung als soziale Verantwortung des Journalismus.

Klaus-Dieter Altmeppen: Journalism and Social Responsibility

Unless the news coverage doesn't correspond with the perception of the involved and concemed people regularly a scolding of the media is following. However, the argument in this contribution is that media and journalism is not the same. This has several implications. Whereas journalism is responsible for professional news coverage the social responsibility of the media hes in the fact that they have to equip the editorial offices with the essential resources. This model, firstly, makes it possible to find a point of reference for measuring social responsibility. Secondly, it enables to address people or organisations to assume social responsibility. For this reasons, it is advocated for a resource model of social responsibility of media firms and a process model of professioned news coverage as social responsibility of the journalism.
